"Hello, I'm Mohammad Firas Sada"

I'm a research networking systems engineer at ESnet, the Energy Sciences Network, at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. I joined in August 2026, working remotely.

Before ESnet I was at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, where I worked on all sorts of things at SDSC and on NRP: the National Research Platform's Kubernetes substrate, its FABRIC integration, the SENSE Kubernetes operator, segment routing on FPGAs, CUDA tooling, Prometheus exporters for novel chips, and P4 with machine learning on SmartNICs. Some of that turned into papers, and some of it just ended up as repos nobody reads.

This blog is mostly about data movement and programmable networks, plus the occasional paper walkthrough and the things I break while learning.

To be clear about the name: I go by Mohammad. Some people in my life call me Firas, both are me, but the site uses Mohammad.
